Project Two: Redesign a Website

This is your second project. You will have four weeks to complete this. Use the case study format for this graded submission. We can review your progress week to week in class. Here is a summary of the assignment. Detailed requirements can be found in the Lesson 12 pre-work assignment.

In this project I want you to redesign a website, which is a common task for UX designers. You will follow a UX process to do so. Whether you call the process Design Thinking, User-Centered Design, or Double Diamond, it will include a Discovery Phase, a Define Phase, and a Design Phase.

You will complete a case study outlining your redesign of Napa Auto Parts.

Your output will be a PDF, unless you feel capable of posting it online (within your portfolio site, using Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, whatever).

Here are the deliverables you will provide:

1. For the kickoff, review the site, do some research (I recommend a competitive analysis at least) and create a Problem Statement

2. In the Discover Phase, perform  a competitive analysis and interview three or more potential users of Napa.

3. For the Define Phase

  • Report on your research
  • Create one or more Personas
  • Refine your Problem Statement to reflect anything new you’ve learned
  • Create  a user flow that shows how a user would purchase a part for their car

4: For the Design Phase

  • Review the requirements
  • Sketch out some designs—save the sketches and include in the case study (1 or 2 rounds of sketching is plenty)
  • Create wireframes of the revamped home page and at least one other page as noted. Depending on your solution, you might wireframe additional pages.
  • Create a clickable low-fidelity prototype
  • Create a test plan and test at least 3 users (you will learn how to do this next week)

5: Visual Design (optional – will learn in an upcoming class)

  • Develop the color palette, branding, typography and add them to your prototype

You will find detailed instructions in your homework assignment this week (Class 12 Prework).
