Great Student Case Studies

Here are a few excellent student case studies for reference.

Case studies from Dora Yang and Annie Pak are notable for their clarity, simplicity and brevity. They get right to the point, are cheerful and fun to read.

Duet from John Lattanzi is long but thorough.

Studio Sooj by Lucia Hua is effective, smooth, and short. As mentioned earlier, she put a lot of the heavy lifting – her design iterations – in the presentation rather than in the case study.

Two students from Carnegie Mellon’s graduate design program have terrific case studies that showcase some skills that are unique to grad school such as a literature review and a team design. However, for the most part they are similar to case studies by boot camp students.

When looking at other case studies, take care not to be impressed by animations and excessive visual treatments. People who will view your portfolio are generally busy and won’t want to be slowed down by animations that cause them extra time. Keep in mind that they might view your portfolio multiple times.
