Case Study Reviews

In class we will review everyone’s case studies. The Case Study basic outline is:

  • Overview and Problem Statement
  • A Glimpse at the Solution
  • Quick Context: Users and Audience, Roles and Responsibilities, Scope and Constraints
  • What You Did –the body of the case study in which you take the viewer

step-by-step through research, post-research and pre-design artifacts, design and testing.

  • Outcomes and Lessons Learned

As we learned earlier, your case study may be more effective if you go beyond the core requirements and build interest with a narrative arc. This may take the form of:

  • Introduction: introducing the basic details of the world
  • Development: building on the information you gave before
  • Twist: a change in the narrative, the crux of the story
  • Conclusion: the resolution and how the world is now different

In your case study review your teacher may point out things that work beautifully, but also areas that you haven’t thought about, some that are not fully developed, and those that may need a different point of view. Don’t let criticism throw you; it is all meant to make you a more effective designer and communicator. None of us were born with the ability to create great UX case studies; it’s a learning experience.

And, as you may have learned by now, nearly everybody fancies themselves an expert on what makes a good app or website!
